Creative Cardiff's 'Show & Tell' is a quarterly event that gives a platform to the exciting range of creative people and projects in the city. It brings together Cardiff’s creative community, from emerging talent to old hands, to hear about their current projects and ambitions.

Each of the speakers will give a 10-minute lightning talk. And they'll bring an object. The object might be the source of their inspiration, a tool of their trade or a comfort blanket. The speakers will share their work and explain the importance of the object they've brought along.

Sharing their latest creative projects with us will be:

  • Andrew 'Bernie' Plain of Musicbox Studios;
  • Kirsty Patrick of Homes by Kirsty;
  • Samantha Wheeler, freelance educator.

Andrew ‘Bernie’ Plain is the co-owner of Musicbox Studios in Cardiff, along with Mark Foley. Musicbox celebrated 20 years as a rehearsal, recording and backline hire business in 2016.

Musicbox have been and continue to be a central point for all types of bands in Wales over the last two decades as well being involved with some of the best events that happen in the city, such as Swn Festival.

Bernie has also played in many bands and on many albums as a drummer in that time with the likes of John Cale, The Webb Brothers, Martin Carr and Vito.

He is also one half of last year’s Welsh Music Prize nominees Right Hand Left Hand

Bernie has and continues to tour manage and tech for bands such as Los Campesinos, Future Of The Left, Super Furry Animals and Kids In Glass Houses to name but a few.

Born from a love of design and a belief that homes should inspire, Kirsty Patrick set up Home byKirsty in 2014.

HBK stocks products by 70 UK-based designer makers, more than 25 of which are Welsh and produced in Wales. HBK really prides itself on championing British and Welsh design-led products which is what makes it different to other shops on Cardiff's high street and shopping arcades.

As a designer maker herself, Kirsty has always loved finding independent homeware shops. There seemed to be a lack of design-led shops in Cardiff, and so her aim was to change this and showcase the best design-led products for customers’ homes. She hopes to inspire and invite Cardiff to love design and their homes.

Kirsty believes it is incredibly important to support local and that is at the heart of HBK. The Get Lost in Cardiff map is Kirsty’s vision - a curated insider’s guide to the best places to shop, eat and experience. She created the map with a team of hands-on Cardiff freelancers and small business owners. The team share beliefs in the power of independents, collaboration, making things happen and shopping local. The first map included nine great independent businesses, and the team are delighted the second has expanded to include way more.

Sam Wheeler moved to South Wales in February 2016 from London, where she lived for 11 years, and has immersed herself in all that Wales has to offer - connecting, collaborating and developing projects.

She is a freelancer working in various sectors UK wide. So far this has been all about entrepreneurship, start-ups, edtech, nurturing talent and young people, learning and professional development, partnerships and employer engagement, social impact, social enterprise, coaching and training, tech/digital skills, creativity/arts/theatre, sustainability and community. Sam is an educator, creator of opportunities and supporter of people.

Sam has jumped on board her local Bwlch and Llangorse Rural Alliance, Cardiff Coalition, Urbanistas Cardiff, WomenEd and NourishEd. She has been volunteering, consulting and supporting various charities, other start-ups, companies and individuals too including MakerClub, Pyka, Hwyl Hub.

Sam and her fiancé, Victor Phillips, together run Single Malt Teapot, a creative hub of possibilities, sharing their good life journey, encompassing and showcasing all those we meet along the way. Single Malt Teapot has a retreat and festival launching in 2017. Sam loves meeting new people, making an impact, building collaborations and giving back to the community.
