I never know what the work will become, or where it'll take me, but I know I'll have to go in naked, with a layer of skin missing, armed only with a pen. COVID made me really trust in the process on another level, and this project saw me immersed in community in ways I hadn't anticipated, ways of understanding the fabrics and frameworks of my people that filled me with poetry and pride. Matriarchal frameworks that have filled our communities with hope and love. Innovative agency that has held us and inspires change.

My own artistry has been one of the most radical things to do during the last 18 months, and my writing is my prayer for progress. My creativity is my peaceful protest. Emotional labour has been the backbone of the pandemic, and in my very small way I have tried to evidence these voices and stories.

Over the last 18 months I have found huge resilience in my artistry. But I would not have been able to achieve this without community. I have beautiful friends who help me with my never ending questions, help me research, check translations, hold my hand, remind me to breathe, pick me up, always rooting for me, always valuing what I do. This project shines a light on these people and helped me articulate my relationship with faith,  reconnected me with prayer and helped heal my heart.
