We are seeking a Props Maker to assist in the manufacture and acquisition of properties for all WNO productions and events to the best of your abilities and maintaining the highest possible standard. You will work with, and alongside, WNO subsidiary Cardiff Theatrical Services (CTS) on commercial projects as required. To help manage and supervise WNO’s props staff including trainee positions.
What will be required of you?
Collaborating closely with the Head of Props and fellow Prop Technicians, this role involves crafting props for various WNO productions. A proactive interest in prop fabrication, along with adeptness in researching cost-effective methods and techniques, is crucial for achieving top-notch props. This position entails overseeing the creation of show props to ensure they align with safety standards. Attending rehearsals and meetings as needed, the role involves working with designers to bring property designs to life within budget and schedule. Effective coordination among departments, meticulous record-keeping of prop details, and staying updated on modern prop-making methods are key responsibilities. Maintaining a safe and organized workspace while adhering to health and safety guidelines is also paramount.
What you will need to have?
Your will have excellent skills in communication, self-motivation, and a creative mindset for managing conflicting priorities. Adapting positively to demanding environments within time and budget limits is essential. Experience in large-scale prop workshops, proficient metalworking, welding, and knowledge of machinery maintenance are key. Additionally, skills in woodworking, sculpting, and mold-making, along with understanding historical period styles, are crucial. Proficiency in prop procurement, texturing, painting, and set dressing is expected. IT skills including Word, Excel, and awareness of CAD and graphic software are required, all while adhering to safety guidelines and introducing new techniques.

Up to £30,522.12 per annum
Colleagues are entitled to 25 days annual leave (pro-rata for part time hours) each full holiday leave year which runs from 1st September to 31 August. Bank and public holidays are in addition to this. After 5 years, your holiday will increase to 28 days. |
