On Par is 10!
Thank you for all the support over the past decade. It may be a cliche but it’s been quite the ride. Rather than look back, I (Toby) want to look forward!
Here are ten reasons I’m excited about On Par’s future:
- We’ve rebranded and have a shiny new website: We’ve been working hard with Rich Chitty at Ctrl Alt Design and are very pleased with the outcome. Go check it out.
- All of the team are stakeholders in the business: Andrew, Sam, and Simon have been gifted shares in the business. They are amazing people who are helping to push the business in a new bolder direction.
- We’re small and proud: Our core team is four people, we’re happy with that! We can be quick and agile. We want to be a speed boat, just like Hiut Denim’s founder David Hieatt suggests.
- We’re a multi-skilled team: Don’t be surprised to find one of us writing a script, then directing and then editing! If we need help we have a wide range of talented freelancers we work with.
- Study documentary film: If you're thinking 'I want to become a filmmaker' I'd suggest studying documentary film because you learn to do everything - develop ideas, shoot, produce, direct and edit.
- On Par is a place to create and learn: We never want to stop pushing ourselves to get better technically or creatively. Einstein said it better than anyone can “once you stop learning you start dying."
- We are storytellers and proud of it: Filmmaking is storytelling with sound and visuals. It’s a craft that we are always striving to master. We’re good, but we will always push to be better.
- I’m making films for TV and I’m loving it: I gave the guys shares as I’m increasingly directing TV docs. It means I’m pushing myself to be a better filmmaker in TV and this is having a positive effect on On Par’s projects.
- We’re starting a mentoring scheme: We’re inundated with requests for work experience but have always struggled with the best way to help. So we’ve decided to mentor four talented filmmakers over the course of 2020.
- We want to share and pass on knowledge: The more I learn, the more the team does, the more they can pass onto the mentees. Knowledge doesn’t have to be passed one-way, it’s another reason why we want to work with the mentees. Despite being ten, we want to stay fresh.
All the best, here’s to 10 more years!
