The cultural events programme in Cardiff over the festive period celebrates the breadth of creativity and innovation our city has to offer. Creatives in Cardiff are involved in making, performing, developing and delivering this exciting suite of activity for us all to experience. With events for all ages and interests, we hope you enjoy a creative Christmas in Cardiff this year.
Here are a few of the festive events the Creative Cardiff team have attended and engaged with over the last few weeks, just a taste of the full creative offering in the city:
Christmas at Bute Park
Bute Park’s iconic light trail has returned, with new installations and music composed by students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. This 1.4km trail is suitable for all ages and is open throughout December. Find out more.
Christmas at the Sherman
This year's Sherman Theatre Christmas productions include Tales of the Brothers Grimm, inspired by our favourite fairy tales and suitable for ages 7+, and Goldilocks (English) or Elen Benfelen (Welsh), suitable for ages 3 - 6. Both shows are being performed until 31 Dec.
Snapped Up Christmas Market
The PrintHaus' annual Snapped Up Market is taking place 10 – 11 December at Chapter. The market will feature stalls from local makers and businesses, as well as offering a range of hands-on activities such as t-shirt and tote bag printing and letterpress printing. Find out more.
Cardiff Castle Christmas Festival
The Cardiff Castle Christmas Festival is a new entertainment attraction, with shows being performed in the unique 570-seat cabaret-style Spiegeltent. Santa’s Wish is a Christmas musical experience about finding Santa after his sleigh crashes, suitable for all ages. Castellana is a burlesque, comedy and cabaret event offering a unique Christmas night out.
The Lion, The B!tch and the Wardrobe
The Wales Millennium Centre brings us another alternative Christmas show in the Weston Studio this year. The Lion, The B!tch and the Wardrobe features drag, burlesque and music, led by Cardiff’s own Polly Amorous. Find out more about the production.
The Big Museum Winter Trail
Amgueddfa Cymru is hosting a Big Museum Winter Trail at multiple sites across Wales, including National Museum Cardiff. Trails are bilingual and suitable for ages 4+, find out more.
Christmas at the Norwegian Church
Following its Festival of Light and Friendship event on 4 December, the Norwegian Church has reopened its Gallery Gift Shop with items from artists and makers, just in time for Christmas purchases. It is also hosting a Christmas with Gwawr Edwards event on 16 December, find out more.
