With over twenty headline acts scheduled to perform in Cardiff this summer, alongside packed listings at the city’s independent venues and Cardiff Music City Festival happening in the autumn, 2024 might just be Cardiff’s biggest year for music yet.

To celebrate we’ll be profiling some of the stories from this blockbuster year for live performances in the city; speaking to the fans, the bands and the behind-the-scenes talent about what makes Cardiff such a special place for live music.

For our latest feature, we speak to The Snuts superfan Sophie about seeing them perform in Cardiff!

Sophie, when did you become such a big fan of the Snuts?

Despite being introduced to The Snuts by my Mum, who discovered them through Jack Saunders’ Indie show on BBC Radio One, I started to really take interest after watching their set at Victorious Festival in 2021. I always find watching artists live is the best way to discover and truly appreciate new talent and sound. “All Your Friends” was the song that really hooked me in, with its iconic and top tier bass line. After that I began regularly listening to The Snuts, eager for new music to drop.

How many Snuts concerts have you been to?

I have seen The Snuts three times. The first, watching their set at Victorious festival. I was then due to see them at The Fleece in Bristol, but due to Covid the show was cancelled. Determined to still see them, I booked tickets to see The Kooks in Cardiff, knowing I would get the chance to see them perform as the support act. I finally managed to see them on their tour for Burn The Empire, at the O2 Academy in Bristol.

What’s so special about a Snuts show?

The Snuts always bring such a class atmosphere to every gig. You can guarantee a great mosh pit with those of the politically like-minded. The Snuts are truly a no skip band, each song bringing a different brilliance to the room, whether that’s, a stanky bass line hyping up the crowd, ingenious lyrics of love or politics, or just good vibes. The Snuts are versatile in their musical writing but always consistently great, making for an evening of nothing but bangers.

What’s different about seeing the Snuts here in Cardiff?

There is always a great atmosphere, and a coming together of the Welsh and the Scots. With a Snuts show, you will not be disappointed, there’s a song for everyone. They're not only an independent artist, but a genuinely great group of lads.
