Creative Cardiff is bringing their Show & Tell format to Cardiff Bay, welcoming Welsh language speakers from across Cardiff's creative industries to share their current projects and ambitions.
Dr Keith Chapin, of Cardiff University School of Music, will chair Show & Tell in the Folk Tent on Monday, 6 August at 5pm. Speakers include musicians Ani Glass and Marged Rhys alongside dancer Eddie Ladd.
Dr Keith Chapin
Dr Keith Chapin lectures in music history at Cardiff University School of Music, where he is also Director of Learning and Teaching. He grew up in Alaska, where his early musical experiences straddled folk and classical traditions (fiddle and viola), and he continues to perform as a violist. Before moving to Wales in 2011, he taught in the United States and New Zealand. He has learned Welsh and has two children in Welsh-medium education.
Ani Glass
Ani Saunders is a well-known artist - a designer, photographer and an electronic pop musician who performs under the name Ani Glass. Her most notable recent work is the Silent Explosion EP, described as “music for the end of the world, and the start of a new one”. She is a former member of pop groups Genie Queen and The Pipettes and has recently worked with international Welsh artist Ivor Davies. Originally from the Riverside area in Cardiff, she now lives in the neighbouring community of Grangetown, which borders Butetown and Cardiff Bay. Ani was raised in both Cornish and Welsh, and, along with her father, is a member of Gorsedh Kernow. A graduate from John Moores University, Liverpool in fashion and design, this year saw Ani return to higher education to complete a Master’s degree in the Department of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University. She is very interested in contemporary, cultural and linguistic issues.
Marged Rhys
Marged Rhys, from Caernarfon, is part of the band Plu, who have performed original alternitive folk music for six years. Marged studied music at Bristol University, with particular interest in musicology and the outside influences on indigenous music. Since, Marged has worked in marketing and communications, now with the Mentrau Iaith (Welsh Language Initiatives). However, she still finds the time to perform and create with Plu from time to time.
