The Sustainable Studio is a co-working creative space for makers, creatives and artists. The space is situated in a former munitions factory just off Dumballs Road and has been restored and renewed with reclaimed, recycled materials, fixtures and fittings. Sustainable design is at the heart of the studio and been used so that work pods can be portable and reused if necessary.
We have hot desks, maker spaces and pods available for creatives and we have over 40 members in our growing community. We house a range of businesses from ceramic artists, videographers, photographers, ethical fashion brands, silversmiths, illustrators, app and product designers, a dance collective, translator, copywriter, textile designers and mascot, William the sausage dog.
We are inclusive and focused on providing a space that is supportive, inspirational and sparks collaborative working. Our relationships with local higher and further education providers means that we mentor and teach students about sustainable fashion design and the basics of sewing of pattern cutting. Pottery workshops enable beginners to more experienced potters to make and create in a supportive and environment.
Our community events space is available to hire our and has featured photographic and art exhibitions, live music, comedy, clothes swaps, yoga, taekwon-do, fashion shoot, music videos and dance rehearsals. We’re committed to making the space available for Butetown and Grangetown residents and we’re looking forward to hosting more events that make the arts accessible.
