We’re delighted to invite you to mark Creative Cardiff’s second birthday at a bumper Show & Tell evening at Wales Millennium Centre.
Creative Cardiff's 'Show & Tell' is a quarterly event that gives a platform to the exciting range of creative people and projects in the city. It brings together Cardiff’s creative community, from emerging talent to old hands, to hear about their current projects and ambitions.
Each of the speakers will give a 10-minute lightning talk. And they'll bring an object. The object might be the source of their inspiration, a tool of their trade or a comfort blanket. The speakers will share their work and explain the importance of the object they've brought along.
Speakers include Karen Mackinnon, Director of Artes Mundi International Visual Arts Exhibition and Prize and Mark Woods, Co-Founder & Chief Technical Officer of AMPLYFI.

Karen Mackinnon, Director & Curator at Artes Mundi
Karen Mackinnon was appointed Director and Curator at Artes Mundi in 2013. She curated Artes Mundi 6 (2014) which was won by Theaster Gates. The exhibition also included the work of Carlos Bunga, Mirza & Butler, Renzo Martens, Omer Fast, Sanja Iveković, Ragnar Kjartansson, Renata Lucas and Sharon Lockhart. Since joining Artes Mundi MacKinnon has shaped a rich programme of expanded activity outside the prize including exhibitons, community projects and socially engaged commissions working in partnership with organisations in the UK and beyond. Recent high-profile commissions include Broomberg & Chanarin's Divine Violence with Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno and Bedwyr Williams’ Traw with 14:18 NOW.
During her career MacKinnon has organised both contemporary and historical exhibitions and has developed a particular interest in socially engaged practice and how contemporary art can be a catalyst for social change. At Chapter, where she began her career, she focused on solo exhibitions and commissions with artists such as Lucy Gunning, Nick Crowe and Orlan. Later at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery she curated shows such as Displaced: contemporary art from Colombia which included the artists Oscar Muñoz, José Alejandro Restrepo and Maria Elvira Escallón. Other curated exhibitions include Shimabuku’s Swansea Jack Memorial Swimming Competition, Rut Blees Luxemburg exhibition Ffolly and the city wide project Lets see what happens... (2013) which included the work of 7 artists from Wales and China across 5 sites in Swansea.
In 2005 she was appointed Curator for the Wales at the Venice Biennale and showcased a group exhibition including work by Peter Finnemore, Laura Ford, Paul Granjon and a residency with Bedwyr Williams.
Gareth Roberts, Creative Producer
Gareth has been a freelance Creative Producer, based in Cardiff, since December 2016. This new venture began after three years as Director of Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Prior to this, Gareth worked in various roles, including Receptionist, Ticket Office Administrator, Venue Sales Assistant, Programming Officer and Programmer at Wales Millennium Centre. In June 2010, he was appointed as the Centre’s first Producer.
Throughout his career, Gareth has been responsible for event management, developing and nurturing talent, programming, and producing new work. Gareth was responsible for creating and organising the Blysh Festival of Circus, Cabaret and Street Art for Wales Millennium Centre. In September 2010, Gareth was seconded from Wales Millennium Centre to Sadler’s Wells Theatre as their Artistic Contract Manager.
Originally from Swansea, Gareth is a fluent Welsh speaker and a graduate of Theatre, Music & Media from Trinity College, Carmarthen. Gareth also studied at Central College, Iowa. Following his graduation, Gareth worked as a producer, director and script writer for independent Welsh language broadcasters and has also worked as an actor
Mark Woods, Co-Founder & Chief Technical Officer of AMPLYFI
Before founding AMPLYFI, Mark was Head of Business Planning and Major Programmes at BT, responsible for a $280m annual R&D budget and advised BT's Board on the 5-year investment plan.
Prior to BT, Mark was Principle Consultant at OTM, a specialist oil and gas technology strategy firm, where he commercialised a series of breakthrough software platforms.
Trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Mark began his career as a British Army Engineering Officer.
Claire Ritchie, Course Leader of BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion at USW
Claire is a creative academic who fuses fashion with a range of allied disciplines spanning the commercial and conceptual design arenas. Following initial studies in applied fashion design, she has been busy styling spaces and bodies since 1995. In 2016 she took up the role of Course Leader of BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion at the University of South Wales alongside a Visiting Professorship in Fashion Design and Luxury Management at Grenoble Graduate School of Business, France.
She relocated to Cardiff following a decade of commuting between positions at a range of London, and Midlands-based Universities and a previous decade spent as a project manager and marketeer within the creative industries in London
Her academic expertise variously encompasses fashion and accessory design, styling, branding, experiential marketing, consumer behaviour, fashion curation, fashion media, fashion film, magazine and zine culture. As a creative practitioner her interdisciplinary projects have received endorsement and funding from The Crafts Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and The British Council. Having recently qualified as one of the first ever BPS accredited fashion psychologists; she now develops concepts which explore the space between creativity, business and science. Her current research interests lie within the realm of niche populations and their representation or empowerment through fashion.
Tic is a BAFTA Cymru winning composer and sound designer based in South Wales. She has created music and sound for numerous projects including work for film, TV, contemporary dance, theatre, animation, installation and educational outreach projects. Notable projects and collaborators include Hinterland / Y Gwyll (Fiction Factory/BBC/S4C/All3Media), Die Fledermaus - Digital Workshop Leader (Welsh National Opera), Romeo and Juliet (Omidaze Productions), A Bird In A Cage (Winding Snake Productions), {150} (National Theatre Wales), Galesa (Joio), Henry VI (Omidaze Productions), The Gathering (National Theatre Wales), The Men Who Invented Scotland (BBC2), The Girl In The Diary (S4C), Isaac Newton: The Last Magician (BBC2), Tir Sir Gar (Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru).
She is a creative team member at both John Hardy Music and Winding Snake Productions. Tic has led music workshops for companies such as Welsh National Opera and Winding Snake Productions, working with young people from junior school age up to sixth formers. She is also a lecturer in Composition with Technology at RWCMD.
As a composer and sound designer she focuses on using a combination of found sound manipulation and sampling, synthesis and instrumental writing to create bespoke soundworlds, often within collaborative settings.
