A seasoned communicator, John Wilkinson started his communications career in 1992 in local government publicity before joining the Benefits Agency as a press officer.

Leaving public service in 1997, John has spent the past 20 years in consultancy specialising in issues and media management for a range of private and public sector clients covering portfolios such as housing and architecture, health and social care, adoption and fostering, financial services, professional bodies and associations, tourism, legal services, education and skills, public bodies and the emergency services.

While the focus of John’s consultancy is to provide senior strategic counsel and training to help organisations enhance and protect their reputation, he remains an active and effective media relations practitioner.

His love of brand development and messaging enables him to indulge his passion for creative design, and he devises and delivers integrated communications campaigns, especially involving attitudinal change and utilising social capital.

In addition to a professional Advanced Diploma in Communications Studies (with a distinction in PR), he is a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner and also a Fellow and UK Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

John is a long-standing and active member of the CIPR Cymru group committee, as well as being a member of Public Affairs Cymru, the IoD and PRCA. He was a member of the Welsh Government’s Adoption Expert Advisory Group and is chair of Governors at a Cardiff primary school and a non-executive of educational social enterprise, Full Circle Education Solutions CIC.

John is married, with two children and a dog. He is a foodaphile, gymophobe and aspiring jockey.
