Profile

Visual Artist

Working primarily through sculpture, drawing and installation, Becky was selected for the Sherman’s New Artist Development Scheme in 2009 and gained a Master of Fine Art degree from Cardiff School of Art and Design in 2010. Becky's independent art practice has culminated in small group and solo exhibitions, receiving regular private commissions in addition to her general studio practice. She has a passion for collaborative and site-specific work which formulates a large portion of her practice, engaging with both professionals and local communities. This can sometimes create a cross-over between visual art and theatre design projects.

Theatre Designer

Becky Davies graduated from The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2007 with first class honours in Theatre Design. In the same year she won The Lord Williams Memorial Prize for Design and was shortlisted in The Linbury Biennial Prize for Stage Design. Based in Cardiff, she has been designing both English and Welsh language productions for site-specific, outdoor, black box and touring theatre for companies such as Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Welsh National Opera, Sherman Youth Theatre, Theatr Iolo, Mess Up The Mess and Spectacle Theatre in addition to assistant work for Welsh National Youth Opera and BBC Wales.

She is currently an Associate Artist of accessible and inclusive theatre company, Taking Flight, and has been continuously designing for the company since 2009. Becky is also Resident Designer for a new Musical Theatre company, Leeway Productions - official launch July 2016.

Senior Lecturer

In addition to Theatre Design and Art Practice, Becky was awarded a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education in 2011 and began working at the University of South Wales the same year. She is the current Art subject lead for BA Creative and Therapeutic Arts, one of only two courses of its kind in the UK promoting the development of refined workshop facilitation techniques for inclusive and community benefiting creative interventions. This draws on Becky’s experience of designing and delivering workshops, utilising artistic principles and skills, with a variety of workshop participants including children and adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, the elderly, youth and community groups and LGBT groups in both Welsh and English.
