Working on a flexible basis through the university’s Jobshop scheme, the student producers help us to plan, organise and run our events and engagement activity. They provide support at our monthly meet-ups, create and edit content for our feature articles and work on our podcasts.
They each bring their own skillset, passions and experience to the role while informing Creative Cardiff’s work and plans with a student perspective.
Beth
I’m Beth, a Journalism, Media and English Literature student at Cardiff University. I’m from South Wales and in my free time, I can be found teaching yin yoga, sewing my own clothes and writing poetry. I am in my third year at Cardiff University, currently working on a creative writing project that examines the experience of young women living with chronic illness and/or disability and my dissertation which analyses the narrative practices of young women with chronic illness on Instagram. Whilst studying, I have worked as a freelance copywriter creating content for a weekend inspiration magazine. I have also worked as an on-campus brand manager for a charity and I teach yin yoga in Cardiff. Recently, I’ve published poetry in the poetry magazines Spelt and Lucent Dreaming.Following graduation, I would like to work in comms within the creative industry in Cardiff whilst also continuing to publish my poetry. I would also like to work advising organisations on how to become more accessible for people with disabilities, scrutinising accessibility at all levels, from language use to practical design.
Erykah
I’m Erykah, I’m a second year Media and Communications Student at Cardiff University. I am really passionate about diversity, inclusivity, and all things film. I have studied film studies through GCSE, A-Level, and now as part of my degree, and it has fuelled my excitement for the subject and driven me towards wanting to work in the film/media industry. Also, as a mixed-race woman, I know what it feels like to be underrepresented in the media, and so I hope to use my passion in both areas to work with Creative Cardiff on highlighting the work of creatives within media industries who have previously been underrepresented, and to help make the industry as a whole more diverse. I hope to carry on with this type of work once I graduate, as I aspire to work with film and media companies on their efforts in being more inclusive and creating more diverse content. I’m not completely set on a job that I want to go into just yet, but I know the things that I enjoy, so I plan to continue doing those things both in and out of Uni, and I’ll see where that takes me!
Rhiannon
I’m really enjoying working with Creative Cardiff, especially on the Rhywbeth Creadigol? podcast. I had the opportunity to edit the podcast, help promote it on social media and I was lucky enough to listen in on the engaging discussions whilst recording.I’m from Maesteg in the Valleys and I study in Cardiff. I love all things art and film, and Cardiff has so much culture to enjoy. I’m also a fluent Welsh speaker who’s passionate about the language, so I’m happy to be contributing towards making creative Welsh language content such as Rhywbeth Creadigol?.I recently completed an undergraduate degree in Welsh and Journalism at Cardiff University, and used to be an editor for Clebar, the Welsh language section of the student magazine called Quench. Communication and storytelling are major interests of mine. I’m curious about people and the different ways we can tell their stories, whilst pushing the boundaries at the same time. I’m currently exploring this further as a part of my masters in Digital Documentaries at Cardiff University. One of my favourite documentaries at the moment would probably be Saudi Women’s Driving School directed by Erica Gornall, it’s definitely worth a watch!
