Communicating with students is at the heart of what we do at Cardiff Students’ Union, and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to do this effectively. If you’re a confident translator who is passionate about the Welsh language, and you’re interested in working with a young, diverse audience, then this may be the role for you.

We are recruiting this position at an exciting time for the organisation. For the first time, Cardiff Students’ Union has welcomed a new full-time Welsh Language, Community & Culture Officer during the 2023 Spring Elections. The introduction of this student Sabbatical Officer role signifies the start of increased development in our Welsh language provision and engagement.

What you will be doing

You will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications and the wider department to provide a bilingual marketing and communications service to the organisation. You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality translation service, as well as communicating directly with Welsh language students and stakeholders through social media platforms, website content and email communication.

You will also work to ensure the organisation complies with the Welsh Language Policy, and will advise staff, students and our Elected Officer team on Welsh language-related matters. You will support the Welsh Language, Community & Culture Officer and UMCC (Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Caerdydd) in campaigning and promotion of the Welsh language.

Skills

The marketing and communications team is a busy and exciting place to work, so you need to be comfortable dealing with lots of projects and planning your own time. Attention to detail is very important - we’re looking for someone with excellent copy writing, translation and proof-reading skills. Most importantly, someone who will always strive for excellence. We are very proud of the work we produce, and we want you to feel the same.

Requirements

  • High-level Welsh translation skills with the ability to maintain the tone of our brand.
  • Confidence in communicating directly with Welsh language students and stakeholders through social media platforms, website content and email communication.
  • The ability to build good relationships with a range of people both within the organisation and externally.
  • Creativity in collaborating on the development of Welsh language marketing campaigns with the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Strong inter-personal, communication, presentation, and IT skills.

What’s in it for you?

Working with a dynamic and creative team that’s involved in everything the organisation does and the excitement of seeing your hard work published online.

This role is a full-time permanent position, 35 hours a week depending on circumstances. It offers an excellent working environment and benefits package including 34 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.

Please note, we reserve the right to close or extend this position depending on application numbers. Therefore, we would urge candidates to apply as early as possible.

The closing date for this position is 15th August 2023.
