Nic Humphries

People fascinate and terrify me at the same time. But I love drawing them.

My work is figurative - and perhaps a touch academic in approach. I find this slow, somewhat forensic approach to creating a likeness something of an exploration, or meditation, on my subject’s “otherness”.

While much of my artwork is about individual people, many of my drawings form small ‘series’ that share a commonality through a specific location. I work mainly in dry media but more recently have been exploring how to transfer my approach to digital media.

This year my work was selected for the Royal Cambrian Academy’s Open Exhibition in Conway and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
