Chippy Lane Productions Ltd. are offering an opportunity for an individual to spend 8 days as a Trainee Producer on the development of new musical ‘Toy Mic Trev’, written by Rebecca Jade Hammond and composed by Hannah Noone.
Toy Mic Trev is a love letter to a Cardiff legend. Busker Trevor Rees was a profound part of the cultural fabric of Cardiff - until he went missing. So many people knew and loved Toy Mic Trev, and this new musical depicts the extraordinary story of the man behind the plastic microphone. Our bilingual production celebrates Cardiff’s unique community and the ordinary people who form the fabric of a city.
We are undertaking three weeks of R&D (Research and Development) to develop the show in March and June 2024, funded by Arts Council Wales. This will include running a series of collaborative workshops with community choirs, to inform the music of the show. Several weeks of development have already taken place in 2021 and 2023, so we will be building on the existing script and score.
R&D rehearsals will take place on the following weeks:
- Monday 18th - Friday 22nd March 2024: rehearsals at the Sherman Theatre
- Monday 10th - Fri 21st June 2024: rehearsals at Wales Millennium Centre
The Trainee Producer will have the opportunity to spend 8 days working with the Producer (Tom Bevan) on the show, before, during and after these rehearsal dates. Exact dates of work will be mutually agreed on with the successful candidate.
If there are aspects of producing that you are particularly keen to explore, we can shape the traineeship around these interests. Equally, you do not need to have defined areas of interest at this stage.
Who are we looking for?
We are interested in hearing from individuals who are interested and passionate about making new musical theatre. We are not expecting applicants to have had a background in theatre producing. You might be a recent graduate; an avid theatre fan ready to move from audience to maker; someone who has produced in other artforms and now wants to try theatre; or someone who has worked in theatre but never produced before.
We are actively interested in hearing from people we haven’t met or engaged with before as a company. If you’re not sure whether you should apply, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for an informal chat about the role by emailing producer Tom Bevan at toymictrevproducer@gmail.com.
Please note, we cannot cover travel from outside of Cardiff or accommodation, so you will need to be based within commuting distance of the Sherman Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre.
What’s the fee?
8 days across the project at £150 per day, in-line with ITC rates. There is also a modest travel allowance for travel within and around Cardiff, capped at £60 across the traineeship and payable upon providing receipts.
What will the hiring process be?
Please send:
- A cover letter (no more than one side of A4) OR a voice recording/video (no more than 2 minutes long) explaining what you want to get out of this traineeship and what you would bring to the trainee producer role
and
- An up-to-date CV (PDF or Word format).
to Producer Tom Bevan at toymictrevproducer@gmail.com.
