I often see celestial wonders in our clear night skies – shooting stars, planets, satellites – and these are often framed by the moonlight blanketing the slopes of the hills. Blorenge and Sugarloaf from my back garden, Skirrid from the front. In Monmouthshire I feel we’re very close to other worlds just out of reach.
The majesty of the landscape often makes me slide into a reverie, making up stories about hunting ghosts in harsh woodland, seeing UFO’s on mountain tops and soaring through the clouds by the power of thought.
The county attracts a terrific amount of cyclists, bikers and walkers and a major event is the Three Peaks Trial in which walkers have to scale all 3 peaks in one day. They have legs of steel and the determination of an earnest theatre director. One day I’ll do the challenge when I’m not so lazy.
This video is an expression of my awe for the place and the hillwalkers. The video is very silly but it’s also full of psychedelic beauty and emotion. I’m very grateful to my friend, composer Lenny Sayers, for enthusiastically giving me permission to use his music and to my friends Warren and Cleo for helping me puppeteer the video. Diolch to Creative Cardiff for the opportunity!
Big thanks to my family (including my two eldest sons for helping) who tolerate my day-dreaming and imagination.
