For creative workers and those interested in the creative industries. Rhywbeth Creadigol? (Something Creative?) brings industry experts and workers together to discuss the topics that matter to them, with a focus on current creative industries research.
In episode one of 'Rhywbeth Creadigol?', we pose the question 'What's it like being an influencer?'
After hearing how lecturer in digital media studies Dr Francesca Sobande of the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Culture defines an influencer, the digital content creators Megan Fflur and Llio Angharad share their ideas and experiences.
Megan has more than 13,000 followers on Instagram and is an ambassador for Boojoo. She runs an online shop called Pethau that sells clothes and home ware.
Llio Angharad is a food blogger who shares content online about the best places to eat in Cardiff and beyond. She has a following of more than 13,000 on Instagram and is an ambassador for Sainsbury's and Beco and specialises in digital marketing for Welsh Government, working on Welsh language projects like Welsh Language Music Day.
Llio works with many brands but highlights the importance of staying true to yourself, when considering your personal brand as an influencer. She said: "You have to stay true to yourself, I would never do teeth stuff because that's not what I do. I do food... you have to stay true to yourself and what you believe in."
Megan talks about leaving her 9 to 5 job and making a living: "I think if you were a fashion influencer five years ago you would get paid, but now there are so many girls doing it and willing to work for free, they don't want to pay you"
