We are looking for an early career Director to assist the play’s Director Izzy Rabey for the world premiere production of NICE THINGS: A QUEER LOVE STORY by Luke Hereford, which will rehearse in Cardiff, with performance dates in London and Cardiff with further venues TBC. You will need good availability across the following dates:

Rehearsals w/c 9th March 2026 - Cardiff
Rehearsals w/c 16th March 2026 - Cardiff
Rehearsals w/c 23rd March 2026 - Cardiff
Tech & Shows w/c 30th March 2026 - London
Tech w/c 6th April 2026 - Venue TBC
Tech Mon 20th - Weds 22nd April 2026 - Cardiff

Fee: £2,200 with travel and accommodation provided for any parts of the engagement outside of Cardiff.

NICE THINGS: A Queer Love Story finds a gay couple, in the midst of their comfortable years. They have everything; a beautiful flat, three holidays a year and truly envious instagram grids. But when one of them comes out as nonbinary, their idealised picket fence lifestyle is threatened by only one thing - each other.

THE ROLE: You will be working closely with the Director to assist the rehearsal process. You will be adaptable to the process and the needs of the production. Specifically you will be expected to note take during performances, offer insight during rehearsals and conduct research throughout the process.

TO APPLY: Please email Writer/Producer Luke Hereford with a CV and covering paragraph explaining why you’re interested in working on the play to lukewilliamhereford@gmail.com by 5pm on Weds 3rd December, with interviews expected via Zoom w/c 8th December

NICE THINGS: A Queer Love Story is co-produced by Luke Hereford and Porter’s Theatre Cardiff. It is made possible by the Arts Council of Wales, sponsored by Welsh Government
