About WMC/Our Department:

Wales millennium Centre is the largest arts centre in Wales, situated in Cardiff Bay it plays host to National and international artists and productions. Much of the success of WMC is due to its delivery of technical services and the use of its world class facilities. We have an opening for a senior technician, and we are looking for a colleague to join and continue our success.

  • As part of a team of 14 technical staff, you will work primarily with the Arts and Creative department. The role will facilitate the get ins, get outs and show running of various events ranging from live bands to outdoor events in and around the building.
  • The WMC is also home to three other venues, a 1900-seater Donald Gordon Theatre, a 250-seat Weston Studio, and a 120-seat Cabaret venue. Occasionally you may work on productions and other events taking place in these venues.
  • Role reports to the Head of Stage and Chief Electrician.
  • 38.5 hour working week averaged over a 17-week period.

About the Role and Responsibilities:

The position of Arts and Creative Technician falls within the Business Operations area of the business and will play a key role in ensuring that all activities, events & shows that happen in any area of Wales Millennium Centre or off site are supported technically to the highest standard. The Centre currently has spaces that are hired to clients for meetings, conferences, product launches etc, as well as various spaces in the foyers and concourse that are also available to clients to hire. In future more venues will be available to hire out.

The work undertaken by the Arts and Creative Technician will be Monday to Sunday and often include evening events. The working week is 38.5 Hours, however on some occasions it may be required to work more than this, in which case any hours worked over the 38.5 will be given back as time off in lieu. There are arrangements in place to cover breaks during the day and overnight breaks, infringement payments are paid where applicable. The post attracts 25 days holiday a year. At request a company mobile phone can be provided with remote access.

Key Requirements:

  • To set up, operate and dismantle sound, audio visual aids, staging and lighting and furniture as required for events in function rooms, and other spaces in the Centre for activities, events & shows.
  • To assist with any technical queries and requests for technical equipment within the Centre’s hired spaces.
  • To use the centre’s AMOS system to book equipment.
  • To use the Centre’s booking database system to gather all information regarding events to ensure event requirements are met.
  • To maintain, operate and troubleshoot the video projectors, LCD screens and associated control systems for all front of house information displays.
  • To maintain the organization and upkeep of the AV equipment and its storage areas.
  • Liaise with external clients and departments within the centre about events.
  • Produce kit lists for events and activities including that required for streaming, IT, and the internet.
  • Arrange cover when away and produce a hand over email to insure nothing is missed.
