Arts Engagement Research: The Needs, Interests and Behaviours of Potential Theatre Participants, Makers and Audiences in Wales
Brief
National Theatre Wales (NTW) is seeking to undertake primary research into the needs, interests and behaviours of individuals in Wales who don’t currently engage in theatre as participants, makers or audiences (‘nonattendees’). This research will identify which demographic segments are less likely to get involved and seek reasons behind this lack of engagement. It will also identify what might entice non-attendees to engage, and then continue to engage with greater frequency and intensity. Crucially, it will highlight what barriers might exist to limit certain individuals’ theatre experiences, including different perceptions of theatre across various demographic segments.
This research will inform NTWs’ 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, and the topline report will also be made publicly available with a view to providing a snapshot of theatre engagement in Wales. The aim is to repeat this annually, although this tender is for a stand-alone piece of research.
By learning the needs, interests and behaviours of non-attendees in Wales, we hope to develop our activity to better extend its reach and impact. It will also allow us and others to meet demonstrable demand, identify gaps in provision and avoid overlap across the sector.
Timescale & Fee
We envisage the research will start in mid-August 2021 and the topline report must be available by 17 September 2021. We would like to invite quotes for undertaking this market research. The agreed fee will be paid in two instalments – 60% at the project’s outset and 40% upon completion. We will consider a range of pricing options within your quote, which could include variables such as the number of respondents you will survey and the maximum number of questions you will ask.
Closing Date: 5pm (BST), Friday 6 August 2021
