The Wales Millennium Centre's new Cabaret venue aims to be a safe and inclusive space for everyone, with a varied programme, affordable tickets, and relaxed performances, curated by producer Peter Darney.
Peter, who also produced two sell-out adult Christmas cabaret shows at Wales Millennium Centre – XXXmas Carol (2021) and The Lion, the B!tch and the Wardrobe (2022), said:
With Cabaret we wanted to create as diverse a programme as possible and to make sure that it remained affordable in such difficult times. It’s going to be wild, provocative and fun.
There’s a Bhangra night, dementia friendly performances, and something for the young and the young at heart. We want to create a special community here in South Wales – a safe space where you can be yourself, find yourself, and lose yourself.
Cabaret's spring programme
As well as an array of visiting artists and performers, the Wales Millennium Centre will also produce two productions in-house for its new venue. These include Luke Hereford’s autobiographical musical Grandmother’s Closet, and Queerway, a sequin-soaked celebration of Queer people.
Cabaret will also feature performances by comedian Steffan Alun, Welsh cabaret troupe Cwm Rag, live music burlesque trio Big Band Burlesque and a variety of other comedy, drag and gig theatre productions.
The Wales Millennium Centre’s new developments
Cabaret is part of the Wales Millennium Centre’s wider plans and ambitions to become a creative hub for all, which includes a substantial renovation to the main entrance foyer.
Its new 120-seat Cabaret space aims to showcase and celebrate emerging talent in Wales, bringing a taste of Soho to Cardiff Bay.
