Tafwyl is a free festival in Cardiff Castle, showcasing Welsh language music and culture to the whole of Cardiff and beyond. The weekend will include a range of music performances, discussions, events, markets and food on Saturday 18 June and Sunday 19 June. The full music line-up is now available to view.
On 12 May, Tafwyl also announced its full Fringe Week programme. The week will include a variety of events for children, families, young people, students and Tafwyl fans.
Caryl McQuilling, Tafwyl Organizer, said:
"We are delighted to announce the schedule for the week that includes a host of diverse events that will be a great start to Tafwyl celebrations in the capital. We are pleased that the events are open to all – with a warm welcome for Welsh learners to come and experience Welsh culture, and to those new to the culture - come and join us!”
Here’s just a taste of some events taking place over the fringe week:
Dragwyl
On Thursday 16 June in Clwb Ifor Bach, Welsh drag performers Connie Orff, Catrin Feelings, Anniben, Biwti and more invite you to an evening of Welsh drag to celebrate everything camp, queer and Welsh. 18+
Catrin Feelings, who is taking part in Dragwyl, said:
“I’m really excited to be part of the first Welsh Drag gig as part of Tafwyl this year. It’s lush to see Drag being included in something that’s a big part of Welsh culture! It makes me feel closer to my culture. I know that Dragwyl is going to be out of this world! Rupauls Drag Race step down, here comes Dragwyl!”
Story Time
Taking place at different locations across the city throughout Fringe Week, Story Time is a free, drop-in event for 0 – 4-year-olds, with story, singing, craft and socialising.
Workshops at University of South Wales (USW)
At USW over Fringe Week, an array of workshops will be hosted on a range of topics, including Professional Music, Animation and Sustainable Fashion. 14/15+ (dependent on workshop)
Bwrlwm Tafwyl
Bwrlwm Tafwyl will bring craft and science workshops for children aged 7 – 12 years old to Splott and Pontcanna.
Twrw X Tafwyl
Popular Welsh bands Yr Ods and Breichiau Hir will perform at Clwb Ifor Bach as part of Twrw X Tafwyl in Fringe Week. 18+
