Disability Arts Cymru Disabled and/or Deaf Arts Commissions 2024
Are you a self-identifying disabled or deaf artist based in Wales? Disability Arts Cymru are commissioning eight artists to create work, in any art form, that shares their lived experience through creativity.
What’s it like to be you? What is your lived experience? What unique perspectives do you have as a disabled person? We want you to show us by producing outstanding art, in any art form.
We will select eight artists to receive £1250 each to help bring these ideas to life.
BSL video and audio flyer are available at: https://www.disabilityarts.cymru/post/commissions

- Agree that DAC can share your work
DAC will share the work you produce both online and in print for up to one year from the date it’s received.
Applications will be judged on:
- The creative potential of the idea.
- The potential of the idea for highlighting lived experience.
- The potential of the opportunity to develop the artist's career.
At least two commissions will be Welsh language. We also particularly welcome applications that explore race or nature from the perspective of disability.
If you require this information in another format or have any questions, please contact post@dacymru.com or 07726 112784.
Please Note
- The fee will be distributed in two payments, the final payment will be made after work is received.
- Commission fees are inclusive of access costs, materials and production costs.
- Artists will be selected by an independent panel. No members of the DAC team will be involved in selection.
- Each successful artist will need to provide a brief explanation of their work and its meaning before receiving the final payment. This can be done as a video, up to between 300-500 words of text or an audio file. These will be published by DAC along with the work for up to one year.
- We understand that rejection is incredibly difficult, especially in the context of sharing lived experience. We are committed to providing feedback and encourage all unsuccessful applicants to apply again for future commissions.
