Everyday Rights: Free workshops, Saturday 16th August

16/08/2025 - 15:00

Imagine all the basic needs of life lined up like a row of dominoes. When one topples—like losing a job—it triggers a chain reaction that affects everything else, from having enough money for food or childcare to having a safe and secure home. Everyday rights properly protected in law would keep these dominoes standing, ensuring that people’s needs are met and all the pieces stay in place, allowing them to live with dignity, even when things go wrong.

Grange Pavilion and Common/Wealth have joined forces to explore Everyday Rights and what we, the people, need to express, support, and take action to ensure our needs are met.

THEATRE WORKSHOP

Join critically acclaimed theatre maker Emer Morris for a joyful, hands-on workshop exploring how performance can respond to housing and land injustice. Rooted in Emer’s co-authored, community-led approach, this session will introduce accessible verbatim techniques and collective storytelling methods.

We’ll explore how lived experience, place and collective visioning can be shaped into performance — with a focus on Cardiff’s own histories and struggles around land, housing and belonging. No performance experience needed just curiosity and a willingness to collaborate.

Saturday 16th August 1-4pm

Sessions are free and don’t require a deposit. Book through our Eventbrite links: Theatre Workshop.

HOUSING WORKSHOP

Housing Injustice & how we fight for better – Edward Daffarn, Grenfell United.

Edward Daffarn wrote a blog post predicting the Grenfell Tower fire seven months before it happened. He lived on the 16th floor of the London Tower. Join Edward Daffarn in conversation about housing injustice in the UK and how to hold the state and stakeholders accountable.

Saturday 16th August 6-7:30pm

Sessions are free and don’t require a deposit. Book through our Eventbrite links: Housing Workshop.

Supported by Amnesty International and Architecture Sans Frontières UK.
