The Programme & Partnerships Manager position is a critical role for BBC Children in Need, as our model of impact is to work in partnership with organisations which share our vision for a world where every child and young person can thrive and be the best they can be. 

The purpose of this role is to scope, design and develop a portfolio of grantmaking partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, focussed on trusts and foundations. Expert in developing opportunities, relationship building, and partnership management, you will be a strategic liaison point in our aim to  maximise the impact of our partnerships for the delivery of our new Grantmaking Strategy. 

Partnership Development

Developing strategic partnerships, mainly with trusts and foundations:

  • To identify and develop strategic partnerships by carrying out research into potential opportunities.
  • To develop compelling pitch, proposal and applications to secure new partnerships, focussed on both impact and income.
  • To build and manage key relationships with existing partners and, where possible, grow these to become sustainable, whilst providing them with support
  • To provide stewardship of relationships from initial meetings to completion of programme delivery.
  • Leading and contributing to the design and implementation of new and emerging projects undertaken by the UK Grants, Partnerships and Programmes team.
  • To work with partners to establish project objectives, approach for delivery, ensure common clarity of scope, good partnership development and management of safeguarding & risk.
  • Leading on fact-finding, research and support for added-value non grant-making activities, such as cross-sectoral meetings, events, collaborative working etc.

Partnership Delivery

Responsible for project management of some funding partnerships, the majority of which require some grant making and management skills. Based within the UK Grants, Partnerships and Programmes team, but requiring close collaboration with our grant Design and Delivery team and our grantmaking teams based across the UK.

  • To work within the UK Grants, Partnerships and Programmes Partnerships team to manage and maintain effective delivery of national and strategic grantmaking partnerships. 
  • To lead in the delivery, evaluation and execution of a portfolio of partnerships and project manage the cross-functional support required to deliver.
  • Acting as an interface for key external partnerships, taking lead responsibility for a number of specified on-going relationships and/or collaborations with organisations in the voluntary, community, public and philanthropic sectors.
  • Working with the Head of UK Grants, Partnerships and Programmes and the legal, finance and operations teams, to ensure clear process is followed in the selection and administration of partnership funding programmes.
  • To manage programme and project budgets, with clear phased budgets, quarterly rephasing and tight financial controls.  To ensure all programmes are delivered and managed in line with statutory obligations.
  • To support creative, agile and intelligent grant making. 
  • Establish and deliver a regular reporting process internally and with stakeholders.
  • To develop learning and connectivity between individual programmes, using the resources available within the Insight team
  • To develop and manage external relations and potential collaborations with a targeted range of grant-making and service delivery organisations in the children and young people’s field.
  • Make effective use of lessons learnt to deliver efficiently. Plan timely reviews/retrospectives and put in place the lessons.
