Jaffrin Khan
Jaffrin Khan is a Welsh born Bangladeshi writer and artist based in Cardiff and London. Her multidisciplinary arts are composed of digital oil illustration, resin and ceramic sculptures that encapsulate Bangladeshi food culture, traditions, identities, health and the environment whilst exploring the experiences of the Bangladeshi diaspora and reflecting on South Asia's colonial past and the relationships we hold with it today.
Megan Hill
Hi I'm Meg, a Cardiff based-Welsh illustrator and I have just completed my three year Illustration course at University of South Wales! My main style of work is clean and simple but I like to illustrate in a variety of styles now and then to expand my skills.
I have previously worked with Wild In Art on their A Dog’s Trail project! I also had the opportunity to artistically represent my course year group by illustrating the cover of our end of year publication!
Simeon Smith
Hi, my name is Simeon, and I make music, images and films. Some people call what I do "content creation", but I've learnt not to trust those people. You might have seen my work in Lomography or Amateur Photography magazines, on the Presence App, or at London Fashion Week. I take an old Leica camera from 1937 everywhere with me. I’m really passionate about social justice and personal development, both my own and other people’s.
I grew up in Spain, but haven’t been back there for 14 years now. I was homeschooled by my fundamentalist Christian parents and still struggle with a weird concept of god. I punctuate my sentences with “y’know?” and catch myself doing it all the time. It drives me insane, y’know?
I find it hard to forgive myself.
I’ve been trying to read a Kurt Vonnegut book for about 6 months. I have flat feet and double jointed thumbs. If I’m bored, I eat.
I live in Swansea with my wife and our three kids. They are the coolest people I know. That said, I’ve been tired for 15 years now. We have a pet tortoise, his name is Shelldon Koopa, and if you get both cultural references there, you’re a massive geek.
Matt Joyce
Matt is a freelance illustrator based in Cardiff. You can find his work on walls, packaging, clothing, cards and magazines. His illustrations mix bold lines and bright colours with humour and a playful aesthetic.
Matt also runs Illustration Club, an informal meet up for illustrators in Cardiff supported by The AOI.
Emma Prentice
Emma is a Visual Artist from Roath, Cardiff. She loves all things creative. In her art practise, she enjoys rescuing abandoned objects, which she turns into sculptural pieces. She collects from nature, skips and charity shops.
She is also a Graphic Designer and has illustrated digitally for animations. Running art workshops in the community is her favourite thing to do. She works with a variety of groups, working with children and adults mostly across South Wales.
As an Art Practitioner she works within a number of settings including, schools, art clubs, youth centres, care homes, hospitals, theatres, and many other community groups.
Emma encourages, inspires and makes art exciting for people, whilst also promoting art and creativity as an important part of improving a personʼs wellbeing. Her sessions are open, fun and relaxed allowing students to find their own way, with a friendly, guiding and motivating approach.
Emma is excited by the variety of creative work she has been involved with and feels she has the best job in the world.
Inga Krik
Inga is a Lithuania-born, Wales-based self-taught artist. She came to Wales in 2005 to work and study further in design for media in Cardiff and has stayed since. She has been surrounded by beautiful Welsh scenery and vibrant culture, where she settled in the small, beautiful town of Penarth. After graduating BA in Design for Media, she worked as a freelance graphic designer, filmmaker and photographer on several national and international projects. Years later, she stepped out of the industry to develop research skills and is currently exploring the world of black-and-white illustrations. She believes that a cross-disciplinary practice supports insights into art and design, and her work in one discipline influences another. To create her art, she uses imagination and minimal technology, which she considers a unique way to explore creativity. Living in Wales enables Inga to become more open about herself and explore the connected roots between different cultures. Blending diverse cultures, languages, and creativity allows her to connect through collaboration with the local community, art projects, and experimental drawings.
Jack Skivens
I am a Welsh illustrator working in water colours and inks. Inspired by my surroundings I have worked on many projects with Cardiff at the heart of them, from a protest poster for Gwdihw’s closure to a children's book about the Animal Wall. I love to tell stories with my illustrations and find little moments within an image to be enjoyed. I like to make art that appeals to all and allow people to find their own stories within it. My favourite thing to draw is birds.
What will happen to the designs?
Each design will be printed on a poster and displayed at a city centre location for a 2-week period - keep an eye out for these! The designs will also feature on Creative Cardiff’s social media channels and website.
A digital animation will also be created using each of the final designs, which will be used on our website and to top and tail video and social content.
