Jess Mahoney, Creative Cardiff Manager
October has been my second full month at Creative Cardiff, and what a month it’s been. The month kicked off in particularly stylish fashion, heading up to Blaenau Ffestiniog (and to the future) for the grand finale of Unboxed Festival’s ‘GALWAD’ – an ambitious multi-lingual outdoor spectacle and logistical feat that combined stunning light displays with political urgency, not to mention a trek up a slate quarry in the dark – what an experience! And from then the pace has barely let up, taking in The Fintech Awards, IBI’s Birthday Party in Morgan Arcade, ‘Driving Change’ at The Roundhouse, a tour of the BBC in Cardiff, Beyond Festival, Swn Festival, Welsh Music Prize, Llais Festival and the launch of Media Cymru, Cardiff University’s new £50 million research and development programme to support sustainable screen sector growth. Wow – I think I need a lie down!
It’s been fantastic to make so many new connections, and all of the wonderful people working in Cardiff’s creative sector have made me feel so welcome as I properly settle into the role. I am so excited about the brilliant work we can do together in the future. But for now, as we look towards November and to the twinkly December lights beyond, we’re also thrilled to have released initial details of our Creative Cardiff Festive Party, taking place Thursday 1 December at The Moon. We’ve got some big surprises up our sleeve so keep an eye on our socials to find out more over the coming weeks, and we really hope you can join us.

October has been such an exciting month for us at Creative Cardiff- diolch i’r gymued greadigol! We’ve attended so many creative events and met inspiring creatives from across the city. We’ve also been busy planning our activity for the next few months- methu disgwyl rhannu mwy!
Personal highlights include watching the Sherman Theatre’s bilingual production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, profiad gwych a hudol, and attending the launch of Minty's Gig Guide - exciting stuff! It was also such a privilege to attend this year’s Welsh Music Prize, part of Llais Festival. We celebrated 15 brilliant artists who were shortlisted for the prize, enjoying sets from Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Dead Method, Aderyn, Sage Todz and the 2022 prize winners, Adwaith. In the build-up, we spoke to some Cardiff-based artists nominated for the award and picked our highlights from the Llais Festival programme. Throughout the month, we’ve continued spotlighting and celebrating Cardiff’s creatives through Creative Firsts, with architect Amanda Spence, and our Five minutes with… series, with filmmaker Charlie Grayson. On top of this, we’ve been sending out our fortnightly newsletters to tell you about the latest jobs, opportunities and news. Take a look at our latest newsletter.
Ymlaen at fis Tachwedd!
