In the fourth episode of season two of Get A ‘Proper’ Job, host Kayleigh Mcleod chats to Ali Abdi, Partnership Manager for Community Gateway, and recent graduate from the School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Alexia Barrett about the transition from young creative to creative worker.
This episode was recorded remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions in August 2020.
Alexia is a writer, podcaster and member of the Creative Cardiff Advisory Group. Talking about the current job market, she said: “I’m just hoping that tonnes more opportunities will pop up and that despite this pandemic the UK will be thriving afterwards and we’ll still be having a lot more people getting into filmmaking, getting into production and getting into journalism. I hope to be on those opportunities in the future and just doing amazing things and really building up my career.”
Ali’s work focuses on building successful partnerships between Cardiff University and the community of Grangetown through a range of youth engagement and development programmes.
Speaking about the future of the creative industries in the city, he said: “My hope for the future is that the creative industries will be more diverse, more pro-active, more engaging than ever before and that Cardiff, and Wales, will continue to be on the map for creating some of the best creatives and developing the best creatives.”
