Roath Lock – BBC Wales’ new drama production studios in the new Porth Teigr area of Cardiff Bay opened in October 2011.  The centre is  home to dramas Casualty, Upstairs Downstairs, Pobol Y Cwm and Doctor Who, as well as future commissions.

The facility is a new 170,000 square foot drama production studio complex (equal in size to three football pitches). This is one of the largest investments in new drama studios of its kind in Europe, bringing new jobs and opportunities for growing businesses across Cardiff and South Wales.  Extensive infrastructure and public realm works including a new bridge linking the site at Porth Teigr to the remainder of the Cardiff Bay inner harbour are nearing completion and will enable access to the new BBC Roath Lock Studios.

The site developers – Welsh Government and igloo are also in the process of creating a new centre for creative industries at Porth Teigr.  The centre will provide accommodation for companies within the creative sector with the aim of stimulating  the development of a cluster of  creative businesses  adjacent to the new BBC drama production facility at Roath Lock . The centre is due for completion towards the end of 2012 and will help support the creative industries sector in Wales with the capacity to accommodate 400 people.  The aim is to enable a new ‘creative hub’ in the region where like-minded businesses can interact and work more closely together.
