Profile

Mencap Cymru is the voice of learning disability in Wales.

Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to achieve the things they want out of life.

Everything we do is about making sure people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.

Our Social Networks is a Heritage Lottery Funded project, collecting stories from people with a learning disability about their friendships & relationships. In an attempt to challenge perceptions and assumptions about people with a learning disability, these stories will be shared with the public via pop-up exhibitions across Wales.

Our aim is to tell the stories of 60 people with a learning disability primarily through personal accounts captured in conversation with their friends, romantic partners or family members. This will focus primarily on those aged 18-25 and aged 45+ to look at differences between generations.

We're gathering from a range of people with a learning disability, including those with one to one support, those with limited or no formal support or those living with parents / family members.
