What do you think makes a successful place 'work'?

People. A successful place will always have people passing through it and dwelling in it. Places that provide variety and flexibility to accommodate change work. Trees have a hugely important influence in making urban spaces work in terms of harmonising a human scale.

What is your favourite place & why?

“It’s got to be New York, New York! “For a metropolis so young and compact, the depth of character, variety and interest running through that gridiron is immense. Copenhagen comes a close second though.

What interests you outside of work?

Spending time with my family and close friends is important to me. When I’m not working on our querky 70’s property and gardens, I enjoy digging for rare and interesting funk, soul and disco vinyl, incorporating them into DJ sets.

Greatest influence in professional work:

A mad Berliner called Dirk Hansen – he was my tutor during my post grad course. He taught me that to understand architecture one must understand how people use and interact in spaces, in essence be less concerned with architectural ‘fashion’ and more concerned about ‘people watching’.
