Founded in 1943, WNO is the national opera company of Wales and the nation’s flagship performing arts company, whose international reputation for the highest artistic standards, accessibility and outstanding live experiences resonates worldwide. WNO is proud of its heritage which is rooted in the Welsh choral tradition. It is not only the opera company of Wales but an excellent cultural asset for the UK as a whole.

Resident at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, WNO employs 250 artists, craftspeople, technicians and administrators. At its heart sit the Company’s two full time ensembles, the 40 strong Chorus and 55 strong Orchestra. The Company tours to eight towns and cities across England and Wales every year, regularly performs at the Royal Opera House in London and tours internationally to countries such as Oman, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Led by David Pountney, the Company’s Artistic Director and with Music Director Tomáš Hanus, WNO presents a programme which ranges from full scale opera performances, through to concerts, digital art installations and exhibitions, and engagement and participatory work in communities and schools.
