Profile

UpRising is a national youth leadership development organisation. We are recognised at Government-level as a pioneering charity championing the critical issues surrounding diversity, social mobility and equality.

Our important work provides routes to leadership and employment for 16-25 year olds who have talent, but lack opportunity. The mission is to break the cycle of unrepresentative power in the UK, by developing new, community-minded and socially-conscious leaders; so that our future decision-makers truly represent our diverse communities.

We want to change the face of power in this country - quite literally.

Our Programmes run in London, Luton, West Midlands, Cardiff and Greater Manchester. We have also worked in Merseyside, Bedford, Tamworth, Lichfield, Stoke-on-Trent and Blackburn.

We have a growing movement of over 3,300 UpRising Alumni, who importantly, remain involved in their community and with our work.

After launching in 2015, the Cardiff Leadership Programme starts again this October, thanks to the support of BBC Cymru Wales, Cardiff City Council, Cardiff University, Welsh Government and University of South Wales.

For 2019-020 we are delivering two programmes:
- Leadership Programme
- Environmental Leadership Programme.

Our 9-month programmes are made up of fortnightly skills, knowledge and campaign sessions, where participants will have the chance to engage with and learn from current leaders from a wide range of sectors and work with a group of peers to deliver their own Social Action Campaign! Last year we had some incredible guest speakers support the programme, including Superintendent Joanna Maal; Rachel Sharp, CEO Wildlife Trusts Wales; Dr Sharon Hopkins, Director of Public Health; television presenter, Will Millard; Cynthia Ogbonna, Managing Director of Cardiff Bus; Rhodri Talfan, Director BBC Cymru Wales; and Julie Morgan, Assembly Member.

Through the programme, participants will have many opportunities to develop their confidence; knowledge; skills; networks; social mindedness; and wellbeing, gaining a wealth of experience that can be used within both person and professional life. Visit our website to find out more.

Applications for both the Leadership Programme and the Environmental Leadership Programme this years programmes open in August 2019. Programme starts in October 2019.
