As Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of effective software; using the latest development tools and techniques. You will also be a subject matter expert in specific business and technology domains. 

This is a key role that will be responsible for the design and development of effective software that meets given complex, strategic business needs for immediate team and broader BBC.  Ensures alignment of the teams products and services with BBC technology and architecture strategy, and provide knowledge and best practice to the broader BBC in areas of deep expertise.

You will also ensure the team’s approach to testing is fit for purpose, lead integration of the software with monitoring and support tools and provide technical knowledge, insight and leadership to peers and colleagues.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of developing software solutions for both client and server side platforms and technologies along with experience working in a formal development environment; and be experienced in using traditional and agile methodologies.

You will be a team player with excellent customer facing skills and possess the ability to develop unique and innovative software solutions to meet a variety of business problems.

Ideally you will have gained experience in developing in both low level and high level languages and be able to demonstrate versatility working within a variety of different industries.

Experience of real-time systems or development of applications on platforms within the media industry would be advantageous.
