Join us as our Policy and Campaigns Officer to work on understanding – through research and community engagement – the many different forms of inequality that affect the lives of LGBT people and be responsible for leading on Stonewall Cymru’s effective responses to public consultations, working with relevant Stonewall teams and partner organisations where necessary.

Reporting to Stonewall Cymru’s Campaigns, Policy and Research Manager you’ll be involved in all aspects of our policy and campaigns work and help develop and oversee the effective monitoring of parliamentary activity for issues relating to LGBT equality and brief relevant staff where appropriate. The post holder will also make recommendations for proactive and reactive responses where necessary.

It’s a varied role in a dynamic environment where you’ll work closely with your line manager and the Director of Stonewall Cymru to build, develop and maintain relationships with elected representatives and key Assembly Members through face-to-face meetings, written briefings and attendance at relevant roundtable meetings and events. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate effectively to and influence a wide range of audiences is therefore a necessity along with knowledge of the workings of governments.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop expert knowledge in specific policy areas relevant to LGBT equality in Wales (including education reform, health, gender equality and other devolved policy areas). A prior understanding specifically of the Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales, including experience of monitoring and reporting on political developments would be beneficial.

Experience working in policy and/or public affairs and strong knowledge and understanding of LGBT issues is essential to hit the ground running in this fixed term role as you’ll also be expected to both maintain and strengthen Stonewall Cymru’s policy partnerships, coordinating communication and contact with senior stakeholders, including civil servants and third sector partners.
