Job Summary

The Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for advancing Artes Mundi’s presence locally, nationally and internationally through development of innovative marketing, publicity and communication strategies and impactful print and digital materials. By working collaboratively with staff, board committees and external parties, the Marketing and Communications Officer develops approaches that drive and support achievement of Artes Mundi’s objectives.

Weekend and evening work is required. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for the following: 

 

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Works closely with the Director to articulate and develop Artes Mundi’s overall communications strategy
  • Develops communication materials, ensuring messages are consistent with the Artes Mundi’s goals and objectives
  • Writes and edits for a variety of communication streams, and assists others by reviewing, editing, writing and/or finalizing copy to align with Artes Mundi’s standards and style sheets
  • Develops copy as ready-to-print and using content written by other staff, integrates into existing Artes Mundi templates, or develops design copy, at times using and coordinating with external designers and printers
  • Develops design and layout of some marketing and publicity material using design software for advertisements, newsletters, signage, bulletins, special events, flyers, membership brochures, AM catalogues, etc.
  • Monitors and updates Artes Mundi website in consultation with external companies/ suppliers
  • Prepares, updates and manages communication material for website including creative management of social media across all platforms and the broader on-line presence, and updates gallery listings on external websites
  • Maintains e-lists and mailing lists and coordinates distribution of exhibition and event invitations and notices
  • Has responsibility for the communications budget
  • Coordinates and negotiates costings with external designers, printers, vendors, advertising, marketing and web services
  • Oversees work of temporary communications interns and staff

 

PRESS

  • Works with the Director to draft press releases that deliver core messaging and reflect the Artes Mundi’s branding and vision
  • Liaises with Artes Mundi appointed external PR company, press, journalists and magazines in print and digital forms to promote Artes Mundi programmes
  • Works with the Director and Curators to liaise with artists and their representatives for interview requests, images for press and any other materials as relevant
  • Liaises with external designers in production of materials including but not exclusive to the AM biennial catalogue, advertisements, brochures, social media templates, website etc.
  • Responds to and/or directs media enquiries to the appropriate person and works with Development Manager for press launches and other special events
  • Monitors and files press clippings in consultation with Artes Mundi external press companies
  • Monitors and maintains all statistical data relating to all Artes Mundi social media platforms and website traffic

 

EVENTS

  • Works with Development Manager to organize and coordinate the AM biennial Prize Ceremony
  • Supervises, organizes and liaises with external companies to achieve and deliver press events, media sponsorships and partnership initiatives

 

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Solid knowledge of business operations including communication strategies, effective processes and branding
  • Solid leadership, customer-service, diplomatic and professional skills that represent Artes Mundi’s values
  • Advanced ability to build relationships with key stakeholder groups including corporate partners, Board of Trustees, the Arts community and donors
  • Strong ability to conduct analysis, strategize, plan and initiate projects that result in achieving targets and completing projects on time and on budget
  • Solid ability as a flexible and creative thinker, with effective problem-solving skills
  • Solution-driven with a constant desire to make things more effective and efficient
  • Advanced skills to write clearly, strategically, and quickly with appropriate styles for different audiences in both English and Welsh
  • Solid media experience; can develop, write and deliver convincing news stories
  • Knowledge and understanding of the media, including print, television, radio and internet and is well networked
  • Strong computer literacy including InDesign and other software, MS Office, Outlook, spreadsheets, Internet, website maintenance and digital interfaces

 

STATUS: Permanent, Part-time 3 days per week (22.5 hours)

LOCATION: Artes Mundi office at the National Museum Cardiff

REPORTING TO: Director

SALARY: £18,000 - £24,000 per annum

 

Staff benefits include:

– 25 days holiday per annum plus public holiday (pro-rata basis for part time roles).
