Job Introduction

This exciting and diverse role will provide specialist Internal Communications and Engagement advice and support to the Director, BBC Wales and teams across BBC Wales as they prepare to move to their new headquarters in Cardiff city centre. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for all Internal Communications and Engagement planning, working directly with senior leaders in Wales. They will be expected to ensure the high quality delivery of engagement strategies, key announcements, internal news, change programme communications, employee updates, internal campaigns and events.

The successful candidate will also be expected to work independently to resolve complex queries, and will be responsible for driving continuous improvements in how we communicate with and engage colleagues in Wales and across the BBC.

Main Responsibilities

Lead on the scoping, facilitation and planning for key Internal Communication and Engagement activities - working closely with the Director, BBC Wales and senior business leaders to get buy in for campaigns and messaging.

Drive and oversee effective, measurable, timely and tailored delivery of internal communications campaigns, working to maximise effectiveness and audience reach across Wales.

Own key IC&E channels across email, intranet and face to face messaging and input into their development.

Support the Director and Head of Internal Communications and Engagement in the planning and delivery of major corporate announcements, launches, events and key IC&E channels like Gateway, Spotlight and Team Leader Update.

Develop and manage trusted stakeholder relationships with IC colleagues and senior managers in Wales and across the BBC.

Advise clients and stakeholders in Wales on strategic communications best practice, industry trends, pan-BBC channel strategies and stakeholder / influencer management.

Build and maintain excellent relationships throughout the BBC – especially across the other Nations and Regions - and have the ability to progress and implement multiple projects at the same time.

Act as a coach and mentor for Internal Communications colleagues in the Central Internal Communications Team based in Birmingham - helping to set clear and measurable project and campaign objectives for them, ensuring high levels of professional standards are met.

Oversee and deliver all written materials to a high standard, ensuring the tone and messaging aligns with the overall IC&E strategy.

Working with Central IC and Engagement Heads create and deliver high quality business continuity and crisis communications plans.

Align Business Continuity planning with the Press Office and Welsh Business Continuity colleagues to ensure the safety of staff and protection of the BBC’s reputation.

Manage appropriate approvals and compliance of all strategic plans and campaign materials across relevant key stakeholder groups.

Approve and comply materials and messages for Internal Communications colleagues as appropriate, in line with the BBC IC&E strategy and core BBC corporate messaging, referring to Heads of Central IC if necessary.

Regularly research, propose and deliver channel and campaign innovations aligned to BBC Central Internal Communication Strategy and analysis of our audience needs in Wales.

Are you the right candidate?

Essential

Proven experience of personal involvement in the management of communications or engagement activity within a diverse organisation.

Sufficient breadth of communications experience to be able to offer advice to senior colleagues in Wales and across the BBC.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present clear and concise professional communications to range of audiences within the BBC

Strong track record in event planning and management.

Ability to analyse and contextualise complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical and simple plans to resolve problems.

Confidence in using a wide range of digital and social media.

Confidence and strong track record in managing relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders.

Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail – ability to prioritise.
