Job Introduction

The Sports News Correspondent will join the specialist journalism team which is made up of eight other specialist correspondents, the News Focus Team and a team of producer/reporters. Delivering original stories, crafted packages and analysis for digital, television and radio platforms, the team works across all BBC Wales News outlets. 

Role Responsibility

You will be influential in shaping and developing BBC Cymru Wales’ sport news agenda.  You will also be responsible for developing a wide range of contacts from across Welsh sport and will be expected to regularly break stories appropriate to the brief. You will need to ensure as wide a range of views as possible are represented.  You will be expected to develop close working relationships with colleagues in the News and Sport departments, BBC Network Sport and external partners.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have a passion for sport and sports journalism. You will have excellent contacts across a wide variety of sports with players, governing bodies and administrators or be able to demonstrate a strong ability to develop an extensive contacts base. You will have a comprehensive knowledge of Sport and an understanding of the workings and make-up of the principle governing bodies of the major sports at a Welsh, UK and international level.

You will have demonstrable experience of breaking stories. You will be able to provide in-depth analysis, broadcast live and package creatively.  You will need an understanding of the current media landscape the law as it applies to journalists.
