Want to be part of the success story of BBC Radio Wales? We’re looking for a Deputy Editor to help lead the national radio station for Wales. It is an exciting time for BBC Radio Wales as we get ready to celebrate our 40th birthday and work towards moving to our new broadcasting home in the heart of Cardiff at Central Square.

BBC Radio Wales is the national English language radio station for Wales. We produce 140 hours of output a week, from production bases across Wales, with a broad range of content - including News, Politics, Sport, Entertainment, Comedy and Music. The Deputy Editor is a critical role in delivering the output day to day, driving the station’s creativity and helping to shape future strategy.

Role Responsibility

The purpose of the role is to oversee the day to day operation of BBC Radio Wales output, to contribute to the development and implementation of the departmental strategy and to help deliver new ways of working. This role will be part of the BBC Cymru Wales Leadership Group, and will regularly deputise for the station’s Editor.

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll be an experienced radio professional, with extensive knowledge of the industry.  As well as knowledge of BBC Radio Wales, you’ll also need to demonstrate an understanding of the wider market and how best to encourage audience growth. You’ll have a clear understanding of the cultural and political landscape of Wales, strong journalistic/storytelling skills along with sound editorial judgement and an in-depth understanding of the BBC’s policy and guidelines.

The successful candidate will have outstanding creative and editorial judgement and be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of editorial standards.

A strong communicator, with the ability to engage and inspire both internally and externally, the role requires a leader who has successfully developed creative partnerships and influenced key business stakeholders.

Welsh language skills are not neccessary. Applications may be submitted in Welsh, and an application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
