Title of post: Communications and Marketing Officer

Responsible to: Head of Income Generation

Salary: £18,000 - £22,000 (dependent on previous experience)

Summary: Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales is seeking a can-do communications professional to join its dynamic and friendly Fundraising and Retail Team. Bursting with creative ideas, you will be an exceptional communicator with the proven capacity to inspire action and engagement from a wide variety of audiences.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver an agreed Communications & Marketing strategy which raises awareness of cerebral palsy in Wales and the profile of the charity.
  • Manage the charity’s communications via the website, newsletters, e-bulletins, social media and publications; ensuring all activities support the key messages, mission statement and organisational strategy.
  • Work collaboratively to produce fresh, engaging and high quality written, visual and video content for use across a variety of media platforms including print, web and social media.
  • Prepare, write, and issue press releases maximising every opportunity to bring Bobath therapy, our supporters, fundraising and policy work to the forefront in the press.
  • Work with colleagues in the Fundraising and Retail team to support ongoing fundraising campaigns and activities with compelling content across multiple platforms. This includes the marketing and development of existing campaigns such as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, Sponsor a Child and the Unity Lottery, supporting Charity of the Year partnerships, as well as helping to identify and grow new avenues for appeals and engagement.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate the performance and outcomes of communications and marketing activities in order to inform and improve future activity.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers across the charity are kept informed of fundraising, communications and marketing activities; and support all colleagues to maximise the potential for powerful stories and case studies to engage people with the importance of our work and add value to all operations and services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with supporters and families who are happy to support the charity’s media and communications work.
  • Develop effective working relationships with relevant members of the media.
  • Ensure that all communications and marketing enquiries have a prompt and appropriate response.
  • Pro-actively seek opportunities to give talks and presentations to individuals and groups, as well as to network widely.
  • Research and recommend potential innovations and developments in communications, PR and marketing to the Head of Income Generation.
  • Assist with fundraising events – including attendance at events when requested and briefing speakers in advance.
  • Monitor relevant media coverage; keep up-to-date with social, medical and charitable sector news and developments which could be relevant and important to Bobath Wales.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in all departments and carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and adhere to all of the charity’s policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Educated to a degree level (ideally in a relevant subject such as Communications and Marketing, Media or PR); or with equivalent, relevant work experience.
  • Experience of working with the press and media.
  • Experience of writing compelling copy to deliver results across a variety of media channels.
  • Experience of producing engaging content that works across digital platforms and social media.
  • Proven capacity for motivating and inspiring people to act using intelligent, purposeful communications and marketing.
  • Experience of working collaboratively to achieve growth and team goals.

Skills

  • An outstanding communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage internal and external audiences both in person and in writing.
