Age Connects Torfaen is seeking a forward-thinking Artist Practitioner to plan, lead and deliver an exciting and diverse course of creative workshops, over a three-year period, for people with Young Onset Dementia

Cognitive Impairment presents one of the biggest health and social care issues of the 21st century, with many people facing cognitive impairment alone or struggling with inadequate care. Age Connects Torfaen have identified the need for this project through several referrals from social services and private referrals of individuals with Young Onset Dementia to access our existing day centre activities programme. Young Onset Dementia effects people under 65 years of age and through this project you will be working with individuals between 40-65 years of age.

As the Artist Practitioner you will plan and facilitate a number of weekly creative workshops at our day centre, offering opportunities for vulnerable adults to explore their own creativity in a safe and comfortable environment. Due to the nature of cognitive impairment, we are looking to engage a confident, resilient and creative individual, able to cope with the sometimes-difficult realities faced by the participants.

We welcome applications from creatives working in any creative practice with ambitious ideas for this ambitious project. We are looking for an individual who can capitalise on their unique creative talent, applying it to a varied programme ranging from the visual arts such as, ceramics, painting and sculpture, to the performance arts including, singing, dance and drama. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new pilot scheme serving a section of society who have thus far gone under served. The first scheme of its kind, your work will form an invaluable part of our two-year pilot, with a view for roll-out and further engagement in other area in Wales and beyond.

We are asking applicants to come forward with proposals on how they might apply their artistic practice to benefit adults with Young Onset Dementia. Proposals should be no more than two sides of A4 for initial shortlisting. You will be joining a small dedicated team and we welcome applicants to get in touch before applying to find out more about Age Connects Torfaen, the project and our team.

Find out more here. To apply please email your CV and proposals by 12pm on the 13th July 2018 to emma.wootten@ageconnectstorfaen.org or for more information please contact 01495 769264.
