Creative Cardiff is bringing their Show & Tell format to Cardiff Bay, welcoming Welsh language speakers from across Cardiff's creative industries to share their current projects and ambitions.
On Saturday (4 August) Dr Llion Pryderi Roberts, of Cardiff University School of Welsh, will host poets Osian Rhys Jones and Gruffudd Owen and author Eluned Gramich, in Societies 2 from 4.30pm.
Dr Llion Pryderi Roberts
Dr Llion Pryderi Roberts is a lecturer in Welsh and is Director of Learning and Teaching at the School of Welsh, Cardiff University. He lectures in contemporary poetry, life writing and nineteenth-century prose. He is coordinator of the creative writing modules at the School.
Llion is a member of the Aberhafren team on the radio programme Talwrn y Beirdd (BBC Cymru). He was resident poet at the visual arts gallery, Y Lle Celf, at the National Eisteddfod at Anglesey in 2017 and was Bardd y Mis (Poet of the Month) (BBC Radio Cymru) in January 2018. His first volume of Welsh language poetry, Tipiadau (Cyhoeddiadau Barddas) was published in July 2018.
Osian Rhys Jones
Osian Rhys Jones is a poet and digital content producer who lives in Cardiff. As a poet he has won many awards, most notably the National Eisteddfod Chair for a long form strict meter poem in 2017. Osian performs his work in various literature events all over Wales.
In 2011 he established the community based Bragdy’r Beirdd poetry nights along with fellow poets Catrin Dafydd and Rhys Iorwerth. These popular events are still held regularly in Cardiff. On 6 August this year the team behind Bragdy’r Beirdd will be presenting ‘Y Siwperstomp’, a night of multimedia poetry at the Donald Gordon Teatre in the Wales Millennium Centre. In July, Bragdy’r Beirdd also published a poetry compilation of the best and most poplar poems performed over the years. He has previously worked for National Library of Wales and Arts Council of Wales and is now part of Cardiff University’s Digital Communications Team.
Gruffudd Owen
Gruffudd Owen is from Pwllheli, but he’s been living in Cardiff for almost ten years now. He works for the BBC as a story Editor on Pobol y Cwm. He’s one of the poets who organises Bragdy’r Beirdd, a series of welsh language poetry gigs in Cardiff. He’s a member of the poetry team ‘Y ffoaduriaid’ which compeat on BBC radio Cymru’s weekly poetry programme, Y Talwrn.
His first volume of poetry, ‘Hel llus yn y glaw’ (Picking bilberries in the rain) was shortlisted for the Wales book of the year prize in 2016.
Eluned Gramich
Eluned Gramich was born in Haverfordwest in 1989. She studied English at Oxford and Creative Writing at UEA. In 2015, she won the New Welsh Writing Award for Woman Who Brings the Rain (New Welsh Rarebyte, 2015): a memoir based on her experiences of living in Hokkaido, Japan. Brought up bilingually, she has also translated a short story collection by German Book Prize nominee, Monique Schwitter, entitled Goldfish Memory (Parthian, 2015). More recently, her long short story, 'The Lion and the Star', was published in the Wales volume of the new series Hometown Tales (Orion Books, 2018). Eluned is currently doing a PhD in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University.
